Questions
Is the generator really free?
Yes — and it always will be. Generating a QR code costs essentially nothing, so the core tool stays free with no watermark and no sign-up. See why it's free.
Is the API free too?
Yes — the REST API and MCP server are free for everyone, including dynamic-code creation up to the free plan's 3-code limit. We'd rather you build on OpenQR than paywall the integration.
What do I actually pay for with Pro?
The things that need a server running 24/7 once you scale: unlimited dynamic QR codes (one printed code whose destination you can edit later — free covers your first 3), the full scan analytics (free shows the last 7days by country; Pro adds your whole history plus the towns and regions scans come from, the times and days they peak in your scanners' own timezone, what people scanned on, how much of it was bots, and CSV export), a branded subdomain (yourname.oqr.to, with every code still answering on the shared domain too) and PIN or password-protected codes — scanners get a branded unlock page before the redirect, and you still see every scan.
How does OpenQR compare to other QR code generators?
Most paid tools lock dynamic codes, exports or the API behind a subscription, and some disable codes you've already printed once a trial ends. See how OpenQR stacks up in our side-by-side comparisons.
Are you charging today?
Yes — Pro is £9/mo or £72/yr, billed via Stripe. Cancel any time.
