What are you printing?
Pick your situation. Every path starts free.
A printed QR code does one of two things: the information is baked into the square (fixed), or the square holds a short link you can point somewhere new later (changeable).
One code that never changes
The link or Wi-Fi details live inside the square itself. Print it once: no account, and no server for anyone to switch off.
One code you can update later
Points at example.com/menu-spring
The printed square stays exactly where it is. You change where it sends people, and see how many people scanned it. Your first dynamic code is free.
A whole set from one list
Table 1, Table 2, Table 3…
Paste a list and each line becomes its own code.
Every dynamic code counts its scans
OpenQR plots every dynamic code's scans in one dashboard: totals, daily trend and countries on the free plan. Pro adds a 90-day history window, devices, towns, referrers and peak times.

Saturdays do three times the work of Mondays: worth putting Saturday’s special on the code this week.
Real analytics are aggregate counts only: no IP addresses, no identifiers, nothing that links two scans, and no town named below five scans. How privacy works
Which placement actually pulled?
Give the flyer, the poster and the shop window one editable code each, all sending people to the same page. The scans arrive separated by placement, so you know which print earned its space. Your first editable code is free; one per placement is Pro territory.

Poster

Twice as many scans came from the flyer as the poster: the next print run knows where the money should go.
Free to make. Pro to manage in the wild.
Making QR codes is free forever: generator, exports, branding, unlimited scans and the API, for everyone. No hidden tiers, no surprise paywalls.

Open source, so the pricing has to be honest
The generator is AGPL-3.0: host it yourself and it stays free forever. What Pro sells is the hosted layer your printed codes depend on: editable destinations, oqr.to redirects and scan analytics, run for you.
One API, three ways to call it
OpenQR exposes a REST API with Bearer keys, a typed TypeScript SDK, and a hosted MCP server. Create, edit and track QR codes from your backend, your no-code tools, or an AI assistant.
AI agents via MCP
Claude, Cursor, OpenClaw and other assistants create, edit and track QR codes through the Model Context Protocol: one hosted endpoint (openqr.uk/mcp), 20 tools, plain-English.
MCP guideREST API & SDK
A REST API with Bearer keys and an OpenAPI spec at /openapi.json, a typed TypeScript SDK, and pre-built integrations for Zapier, n8n and Raycast.
Create, edit and track QR codes from any of them
Everyday use needs none of this: the generator is free, and so is the API.
Questions, answered
OpenQR is open source under the AGPL-3.0 licence. Read why it’s free or our privacy approach.
- Is OpenQR really free?
- Yes. The OpenQR generator is completely free: no watermark, no sign-up, and no limit on how many codes you make. Editable dynamic codes, scan analytics and the API are free to use too, within the free plan's limits; Pro (£9/month) is for running codes across a business: 25 editable dynamic codes, a 90-day analytics window and detailed reporting, and Business (£19/month) goes to 100 codes and a 12-month window.
- What is the difference between a static and a dynamic QR code?
- A static QR code bakes its data into the pattern itself, so it works forever and can never be changed. A dynamic QR code stores a short link that OpenQR can repoint after printing, and scans are counted per code. Static codes are unlimited and need no account; the free plan includes 1 dynamic code.
- Do the QR codes have a watermark?
- Never. OpenQR does not add a watermark or a logo to your codes, on any format or size.
- Do the QR codes expire?
- No. Static codes encode your data directly, never touch OpenQR's servers, and work forever. Dynamic codes keep working on every plan: if you cancel Pro, codes above the free limit pause rather than vanish, and you can reactivate them in the dashboard.
- How many times can a QR code be scanned?
- Unlimited, on every plan, including the free one. Scans are never metered, throttled or counted against your account, so a code on a menu that gets scanned a thousand times a week costs exactly the same as one scanned twice.
- What happens to my codes if I cancel Pro?
- Your codes survive. Cancelling deletes nothing: your codes, designs and scan history stay in place. The free plan covers 1 dynamic code, so on a downgrade your most-scanned codes stay live and the rest are paused, not deleted: reactivate any one yourself in the dashboard, or re-subscribe and every paused code comes back at once. Static codes are unaffected either way.
- Can I download a high-resolution or vector QR code for print?
- Yes. OpenQR exports PNG or WebP up to 4096px, plus true-vector SVG and PDF that scale to any print size.
- Can I add my logo and brand colours?
- Yes. Add a logo, choose colours and gradients, change the dot and corner styles, and add a “Scan me” frame, all free.
- What if my QR code won't scan?
- Most scan failures come down to four causes: a code too small for the scanning distance, low contrast between the modules and the background, a missing quiet-zone margin, or a camera setting on the phone. OpenQR's troubleshooting guide walks through every cause, with device-specific fixes for iPhone and Android. Read the troubleshooting guide.
- Is OpenQR private?
- Yes. Static codes are generated entirely in your browser and never uploaded. A dynamic (editable) code stores only its destination, so scans can be redirected and counted, and that analytics is aggregate-only: no IP addresses, no identifiers, nothing that links two scans, and no town or city is named below five scans. The site runs without tracking cookies, so there is no consent wall.
